Medical Laser Safety Officer

This course is designed to give the operating room personnel a basic foundation in laser biophysics, tissue interaction and laser safety. Laser safety protocols will be addressed according to the ANSI Z136.3 Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care Facilities standard, AORN recommended practices, and ASLMS practices. Instruction is accomplished through didactics, and discussions. This course is worth 9.95 Contact Hours, 1.5 BLS CM Points, 1.84 ABIH CM Points, and 13 CECs by AAHP.

Advanced Medical Laser Safety Officer

This course will be held at Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth which is located outside Atlanta. Gwinnett Medical Center–Duluth was completed in 2006, and was designed from the ground up to combine a quiet, healing environment with the latest in digital technology. The end result is a hospital that promotes patient healing while offering the very latest medical technologies for efficient treatment and quick recovery times.
This course is three and a half days long and is designed to provide Medical Laser Safety Officers an in depth and thorough look at laser biophysics, tissue interaction, laser delivery systems followed with a hands-on demonstration on multiple laser systems, surgical smoke plume management, anesthesia protocols, laser safety protocols according to the ANSI Z136.3 Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care Facilities standard, and laser safety program management and audits. Instruction is accomplished through discussion, didactics and hands-on demonstrations. This course is worth 17 Contact Hours, 3.5 BLS CM Points and 12 CECs by AAHP.
Established Laser Safety Officers, and new Laser Safety Officers who would like an In-depth knowledge of laser safety and program management in a medical environment.
